Atlas / Seaboard

Martin Goodman ran Marvel Comics for a little while but was either bought out or sold out (not sure which). Angered at this, he set up a company with the aim of becoming a rival for the powerhouse of comics. He even published under an old name formerly used by Marvel during the 1950's - Atlas. Atlas tried to hire people away from DC & Marvel. Some of these people apparently found themselves blacklisted by Goodman if they continued working for the other companies (not that it mattered as Atlas lasted less than half a year in all). Soon after the collapse of the comic line, the Goodmans went back to publishing porn magazines exclusively.

Although this rival didn't last long, they created a number of characters during their short run.
