Created by Kurt Busiek and James W. Fry. The Liberty Project told the story of a team of small time supercriminals offered parole in return for working for the government. Published by Eclipse, it featured some of early professional work by Kurt Busiek, and remains one of my personal favourite comics, full of twists and turns and likeable characters. It sadly lasted only 8 issues, though the team would go on to reappear as part of Eclipse's Total Eclipse crossover, including a one-shot featuring the team. The Total Eclipse appearance partially resolved the cliffhanger ending of the original series, but left the team's status in limbo. Some years later, with no explanation provided for what had happened in the intervening time, the group turned up, complete with new members, as guest stars in Topps' Jack Kirby's Teen Agents; since the Kirbyverse doesn't look to be the same reality as the Eclipse shared universe, but James Fry considers them the original team rather than a Kirbyverse dimensional counterpart, suggesting they somehow slipped realities.
