Idea and Design Works Publishing, founded in 1999, has become one of the newer industry powerhouses. Initially known for horror-based titles such as 30 Days of Night, the runaway success of that (and subsequent movie version) helped cement their place on the comic industry map. They've revived and / or reprinted several dormant properties such as Grimjack, Jon Sable and Badger (all very welcome returns, from my perspective as a fan of same), and have become a major player in licensed titles.

As well as the above, IDW produces licensed tie-in comics for TV shows and movies including 24, CSI, The Shield, Star Trek, Beowulf, Galaxy Quest, Ghostbusters, Dawn of the Dead, Land of the Dead, Shaun of the Dead, Devil's Rejects, Saw, the Mummy and Underworld, as well as Transformers, G.I.Joe, Ghost Whisperer, Jungle Book, Silent Hill, Oliver Twist, Sir Apropos of Nothing, Metal Gear Solid and Speed Racer.
