History: After his family was slaughtered by vampires, Whistler became a hunter, tracking down and killing the bloodsuckers. Encountering the teenage half-vampire Eric Brooks living wild on the streets, he raised the boy, helping him control his bloodlust and training him to follow in Whistler's footsteps as a slayer under the name Blade. He also secretly helped establish the Nightstalkers, cells of vampire slayers around the U.S.; his surviving daughter was raised in separation from him to ensure her safety, eventually joining one of the Nightstalker cells. In 1998 Whistler was bitten and turned by Deacon Frost; his dying body was left to be found by Blade, who left him a gun to slay himself before he could change. Whistler failed to commit suicide successfully, and was found and imprisoned by other vampires, punishment for his years of slaying. Blade eventually rescued him from captivity, and managed to successfully change him back to a normal human. Whistler then helped him fight the threat of Nomak and the Reapers, mutated vampires who preyed on their own species. He subsequently appeared to die when police raided his warehouse hideout; Whistler activated the self destruct while still inside.
