History: "A century ago, Scotland Yard was a very different place from what it is today. Crime was rife throughout the gas-lit streets of old London. Then came the Shadow! One day nobody had heard of him. The next day all Britain could talk of nothing else, for he captured a cunning crook who had eluded Scotland Yard for years, and delivered him, bound hand and foot, to Bow Street Police Station.
Thereafter, the Shadow struck again and again against the lawless, and all the time he laughed at Scotland Yard's vain effort to forestall him."
In his true identity of the Honourable Sir Basil Blythe, the Shadow played the part of a clueless aristocratic fop (don't they all?), but when villainy reared its ugly head, Basil headed to a hidden base in Limehouse, where the blond aristo would don a black wig (complete with sideburns), a false nose, a long coat and a wide brimmed hat to become the Shadow.
