History: Soldier Jason Edwards was the sole survivor of a squad of men slaughtered by the Horde. Taken captive, he spent more than a year as a prisoner onboard one of their ships, using his time to learn their language and their culture, so that he could one day destroy them. During this time he also unwittingly contracted an alien virus which would later prove to be the cure for the fatal side effects of the Morituri process, although he did not know this at the time. When the Strikeforce: Morituri attacked the ship he was on, he assisted them on their mission to destroy the vessel and then helped them escape back to Earth. Back on Earth Edwards was taken into custody for debriefing, and when it was learned that his genetic structure made him suitable for the Morituri process, he was blackmailed into joining the ranks of the Strikeforce or face execution for desertion. He dubbed himself Revenge, and marked his uniform with the Horde symbol for same. Soon afterwards the war was unexpectedly ended when a second alien race, the VXX-199, inexplicably turned up, destroyed the Horde fleet, and then departed without explanation.

Although the war had ended, the Morituri's fight had not. The surviving members were targeted by a conspiracy plotting to take over the government. They were to be assassinated and then made scapegoats for the murder of the Prime Minister. One of the Morituri, Brava, was slain, but Revenge survived an attempt on his life by the superhuman assassin known as The Wind. The same assassin managed to kill the Prime Minister, but was cornered by the remaining Morituri; his superhuman speed allowed the psychotic killer to play with his opponents, but he made the mistake of making physical contact with Revenge. No amount of speed could then save him from Revenge's power to make things explode, and the conspiracy was defeated.

For a while after the war, Jason had a relationship with Fiona Windsor (Lifter), but they eventually broke up, and he became a mercenary. The discovery of the VXX-199's plans to harvest humanity brought the Morituri back together again to resist this, and also led to Jason and Fiona resuming their relationship.
