History: Marc Jaeger is many things. He is an international assassin, known as "The Hunter", who maintains several identities around the world, including Karl Vandeberg, an Australian / German playboy, and Raden Fairlight, a shy, American, private eye. He is an openly, and proudly, gay man, who enjoys attending the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras that take place in various cities around the world. And he is a vampire.

How he became undead remains a mystery, apparently even to Jaeger himself. He long believed he was the only vampire in existence, until he was hired to kill the famous genetic engineer Dr Daniel Karlberg. Marc discovered that Karlberg was a vampire too, and learned that a criminal cabal known as "the Nethermind" was a vampire secret society. That didn't save Karlberg from Jaeger, and the assassin was somewhat put out when a messenger from the Nethermind informed him shortly afterwards that he had been inducted into the group without his consent.

A short while later an Australian drug lord hired Jaeger to eliminate a serial killer who was murdering drug dealers. While visiting the land down under, Jaeger attended Mardi Gras, meeting and falling in love with a young man called Vincent Knight. By an ironic twist of fate Knight proved to be the killer Jaeger had been hired to slay, a werewolf who was avenging the murder of his lover. When Vincent refused to end his vengeance, Jaeger honoured his deal and shot the boy in the head. Vincent survived because of his lupine nature, and other members of his "Grey Howlers" pack warned Marc from ever returning to Australia.

Since then Jaeger has faced Colonel Frank Cassidy, a powerful psychokinetic operative of the US Army, Azharoth, leader of the Nethermind, Akhkharu, god of the vampires, and the psychotic cannibal sorcerer Stormwalker. His exile from Australia was lifted when he agreed to help the Grey Howlers against a group of superhuman assassins who had targeted the wolves.
