History: Steve Storm harboured a great secret - the thirteenth member of the Storm family, he escaped the Curse of Grosta after 500 years. As a result "the mighty force of the Storms thundered into the soul of Steve, that this young hero might, at will, transform into the giant superman of justice, whirlwind prince of the storms - Tornado". And no, I don't get this origin either.
(Oh Boy! #4) Tornado accompanied scientist/explorer Professor Klein on an expedition to Malaya to investigate sightings of a giant anthropoid the professor believed might be the last living descendent of an extinct race.
Comments: Adrian Kermode sent me the following interesting information. "The Tornado was created, written and drawn by a teenage boy called Bob Monkhouse who went on to become one of the UK's most popular comedians, appearing in scores of television shows and popular films, including the famous "Carry On" series!" He also corrected my mistaken assumption about the powers the character had.
Mick Anglo, better known for Marvelman, was involved in producing Tornado's stories in Oh Boy! #5-12, and Hugh Stanley White took over art chores in 1951.
