Monsters made from swamp muck and vegetation

There's a surprising number of these - or maybe not so surprising. After all, every other time one person came up with a semi-original and successful concept, it wasn't long before others were ...inspired to imitate it. So it was that the Heap, first of the men transformed into a muck and vegetation creature, soon found he couldn't swing an alligator without hitting another similarly unfortunate transmogrified individual.
