Marvin the Dead-Thing
Real Name: Marvin
Identity/Class: Swamp monster
Occupation: Swamp beast
Affiliations: Girl-Thing
Enemies: Unknown
Known Relatives: None (arguably Girl-Thing might be considered a spouse)
Aliases: None
Base of Operations: Unidentified swamp
First Appearance: Eerie #49 (Warren, July 1973)
Powers/Abilities: Immune to guns and blades. Superhuman strength.
History: (Eerie #49) Tying a rock to himself and jumping in a river to drown because he believed no one cared, Marvin was revived by toxic waste as an amalgam of vegetation and undead flesh. Lonely, he tried returning to his human place of work, with predictably disastrous results, and a mob quickly formed from the local townspeople, intent on destroying the creature. One girl made an effort to befriend him, but she was accidentally shot dead by one of the mob. Marvin retreated back to the swamp with her corpse, and when he placed it in the murky waters she too arose as a swamp creature, the "Girl-Thing."
(Eerie #129: Ode to a Dead Thing) Marvin and Girl-Thing witnessed a pair of murderers dump the corpse of a newborn infant into the swamp. Like Marvin and Girl-Thing, the infant arose as a swamp creature.
