History: The latest in an unbroken line of patriots who had served their country from Bunker Hill to Argonne, American Gary Blakely grew up England where his father was serving as a military attache. He excelled at both his studies and sports, but when Britain went to war with Nazi Germany he quit Oxford University to enlist in the RAF. However, his father pulls strings to have him rejected, insisting he must return home and enlist there; his circuitous route takes him via France, where he witnesses the Germans' invasion, and becomes convinced they intend world domination. Finally reaching the U.S.A. he follows his grandfather's advice and enlists at West Point, but is unhappy to face four years before he can see action. Going out for a walk to clear his head, he recognises a Luftwaffe captain he met back in London, and suspicious, tails him to a Fifth Columnist meeting, where he overhears plans to blow up West Point. Returning to the Academy, he dons the uniform of his great-great grandfather, George Washington's aide-de-camp Captain Ralston, and foils the plot as the Spirit of '76.
