Summary: Zoblobnian sacientist Professor Tom Katz invented electronic "spare parts," bionic limbs which the user could attach over their own to make themselves incredibly strong. Realizing his country's corrupt president, Krunshki, intended to use them to cheat at the forthcoming Los Angeles Olympic Games in two years time, Katz and his son Kit defected to England to prevent his, so Krunshki sent Zoblobnia's two greatest spies, the masters of disguise Fruitski and Nutski, to steal the spare parts back.
History:
Comments: Created by Graham Exton, originally drawn by Vic Neill, then later Robert Nixon and Trevor Metcalfe.
Wow!#33's Spare-Part Kit story became a mini-crossover story for the comic as Steamy Sid and Kid Banjo from KBR, Coo from Bill and Coo, Adam and his Ants, and Kid Comic all helped MI6 hunt for a kidnapped Kit.
Unlike many humour strips,, Spare-Part Kit came to a definite close with Kit and his father eventually set off on a globetrotting multi-episode adventure pursued by Fruitski and Nutski that ended in Los Angeles at the 1984 Olympic Games. When the games ended, so too did the strip. Though in theory there was no reason Kit's story had to end there (he was still alive and in possession of the limbs), the spies' main reason for wanting to steal the Parts had been thwarted, so it made for a natural end point to the series.
Kit's strip was normally in black and white, but he was depicted in colour five times that I know of. As was so often the case, because the colourists didn't have a baseline reference to work with his colour scheme wasn't consistent. The first was in Barney's Badges in Wow!#25, where a version of him appeared on one of the titular Barney's badges, depicting him with red hair, a red tunic, blue fish scaled trunks, red boots, and flesh coloured bionic limbs. Then on the cover of Wow!#37 his hair colour was reddish blond, perhaps ginger, his bionic limbs flesh coloured, his tunic black with red buttons and his trunks green. Then he appeared alongside all the characters appearing in Whoopee on the cover of the first issue where Wow! merged with it, and there he was definitely blond, flesh coloured limbs, black tunic with red buttons and black trunks. In Wow! Holiday Special 1986 his hair was suddenly brown, his tunic red, no buttons, black trunks, green limbs and purple boots. Finally in Whoopee Holiday Special 1992 (as shown at the top of this page) he was blond again, his tunic was black but with blue buttons and highlights, his trunks blue, and his limbs flesh coloured again.
