As well as being a good enough shot to knock someone's gun out their hand without hurting them, his horse Warrior could obey almost any command. He fought criminals, "polecats", and "owlhoots" who threatened his ranch, aided by his trusty ranch hands.
Comments: Less of a superhero character than many of Timely's western heroes, but since many of them have interacted with other parts of the Marvel universe, he might do so too one day.
A couple of interesting points about his appearances. First, all his issues had photo covers. Second, although the era marked his appearances as being Timely Comics, the covers clearly carried "Marvel Comics" logos - some of the earliest examples perhaps of the name that the company would eventually be known as? Lastly, in case anyone is wondering about the numbering - there were no Rex Hart #1-5. The title started as Blaze Carson, became Rex Hart with #6, then Whip Wilson with #10, and lastly Gunhawk as of #12 (and #13, the final issue).
Thanks to Jess Nevins for allowing me to use information from his excellent Golden Age Heroes Directory and his Guide to Golden Age Marvel Characters. Thanks also to Richard Boucher & Darrin Wiltshire @ PR-Publications for permission to use information from their equally brilliant collection of Golden Age Sites, PR Publications. Their knowledge of Golden Age characters far outstrips my own.
