Powers/Abilities: Incredible strength and ferocity - his scaly skin was also bulletproof.  This, along with his great size (far greater than the rest of his people), made him a formidable opponent in his undersea world. Amphibious - able to function on land and sea equally easily.

History: (Norstad of the Deep, Pow Annual 1971) Norstad was the despotic king of a race of gigantic Kraken-like beings who ruled an undersea kingdom. Eventually his people rebelled and overthrew him. Wrapping him up in a net, they threw him into a deep precipice known as the Valley of No Return. The pressure and the cold at these great depths took all the strength out of Norstad, and without this his bravery evaporated. Cowering in the darkness he was discovered by Oceanographer Mike Carter, who was investigating the depths in a bathysphere. Somehow a radio scanner tuned Mike's mind into Norstad, knocking Mike out and granting Norstad increased strength and intellect. When Mike is disconnected from the equipment however, Norstad returned to his weakened state.

Back at Dock a few days later, Mike tried to figure out what had knocked him out, and again tuned his mind into Norstad's. Emboldened once more, Norstad returned to his kingdom to discover his rebellious subjects had been enslaved by the creatures they had once conquered. Realising that he could be reduced to ineffectualness again, Norstad headed to land in order to kill Mike before he awakened. He rampaged through the city until he came upon Mike's boat, but just before he could reach the bathysphere, one of the oceanographer's colleagues disconnected him. Robbed of his strength and courage, Norstad attempted to flee, but the coastguard hit him with grenades, apparently killing him.
