History: Hudson was born in Scotland during the late ninth century. He belonged to a clan of Gargoyles that co-habited with humans in Castle Wyvern. Sometime during the 10th century he assumed leadership of the clan. He continued to lead the clan, until he was wounded by a sorcerer in battle, blinding him in one eye. At this time, he stepped down in favour of the younger Goliath. He continued to act as mentor and adviser to the young gargoyle. Subsequently vikings attacked Castle Wyvern. They were routed by the gargoyles and their human allies. At the advice of Demona and the human captain of the guard, Goliath chose to chase after them taking along Hudson and the gargoyle beast Bronx. It was a trick, however, Demona and the captain had conspired to turn over the castle to the vikings in return for sparing the gargoyles. The viking leader betrayed them and killed most of the clan as they slept. Hudson went along with Goliath and the rest of the survivors of the clan to rescue the captive humans and avenge their clan. One of the captives, a sorcerer, blamed the gargoyles for the fall of the castle, mistakenly believing that the woman he loved had died. He cursed the gargoyles so that they would sleep during the night as well as the day. The curse was supposed to last until Castle Wyvern rose above the clouds.

A thousand years later, millionaire David Xanatos bought the castle and shipped it stone-by-stone back to the states. He rebuilt it on top of a skyscraper, thus breaking the curse. The gargoyles awoke in a strange, new world. Soon after, Hudson first took his name (gargoyles traditionally not having names) - like many of the group, he named himself after a place in his new home. He, along with the other gargoyles, also agreed to recover "stolen" property for Xanatos, only to find that the property didn't actually belong to Xanatos; battle resulted. The gargoyles won and found themselves forced to adapt to the twentieth century.
