History: "In this world of ours, nothing is perfect. From time to time strange children are born to normal humans - infants resembling animals, having strangely warped minds and bodies occasionally enter our world. Fortunately few of these creatures survive...but the fact remains...some do. They form the basis of most of our ancient legends concerning werewolves, Frankensteins, vampires, etc. Fascinated by the study of these abnormal beings, young Doctor Jim Stearne has devoted his life to tracing down these creatures, and has become known throughout the medical world as Mr.Monster."
Jim Stearne was originally a doctor who turned his fighting skills to combatting crime around the end of World War II. However, after several months of fighting (comparatively) mundane foes, he began to run into monsters, and so he re-invented himself as the creature-killing Mr. Monster.
Comments: Mr Monster was created by Fred Kelly, a Golden Age cartoonist, for Canada's Bell Features. After the war they sold the character (and many others) to the newly created F.E. Howard Publications, who placed Doc Stearne in the short-lived Canadian comic, Super Duper Comics. American Michael T. Gilbert came across a copy of Super Duper in the 70's, and later revived the character in 1984, as Doctor Strongfort Stearn, the new Mr.Monster.
