Summary: As a young boy Bob Vale survived a massacre carried out by Natives who had been deliberately tricked into their attack by the trapper Hawkins for his own ends. Adopted by Lloyd Vale, both the sole adult survivor and the sole witness who could identify Hawkins, Bob grew to adulthood before the Vale family's path crossed that of Hawkins again. After he murdered Lloyd, Bob sought justice for his foster father, and when the local sheriff proved to be in Hawkins' employ Bob turned vigilante, adopting the masked identity of the Black Diamond to bring the killer to justice. Thereafter he wandered the region, soon picking up his friend and ally, the giant Bumper, and whenever he encountered situations the law could not handle, the Black Diamond would ride again.

History:

Comments: Created by William Overguard.

Black Diamond took his name from a distinctive black diamond gem mounted in a ring; Hawkins had lost it when he attacked Lloyd Vale during the massacre, and Lloyd had later passed it on to Bob, in the hope it might be used to eventually identify its owner.
