History: An unidentified electrical linesman was struck by lightning while working up a pole. Chancing to witness the accident, electrical scientist Professor Rand decided that if the man lived then he could be the subject of Rand's experiments, and donning rubber gloves, pulled the highly charged but unconscious linesman into his car, then took him back to the lab. Awakening, the confused linesman was informed that while his fists were clenched, he would generate sufficient electricity to destroy most anything and be protected by the energy field; with his hands unclenched, he was an ordinary man. Taking this in without surprise, the linesman immediately vowed to only use his powers for good and renamed himself Firebrand (Post-Traumatic Stress, if you ask me)
Comments: If the struck by lightning while up a pole sounds familiar, it's probably because that's the origin of the Marvel villain Electro, who was created several years after Firebrand.
Firebrand was also published by Harvey Comics.
