Enemies: Jennifer Mays, Gabriel Webb, Bliss, Ellery Queen
Known Relatives: Hollis Rune (son from the first marriage); Margaret Chalmers-Rune (second wife, deceased); Ariel Chambers (stepdaughter); Anthony Junior (son, deceased)

First Appearance: The MAZE Agency #9 (Innovation, 1989)
Powers/Abilities: Rune performed as "zen archer", shooting arrows blindfolded (which was actually a stage magicians trick - he saw through the blindfold and was an expert sharpshooter).
History: Doctor Rune was a supposedly New Age archer working with his second wife and three of their children. When his wife was murdered, Webb, Mays and Ellery Queen investigated, and deduced that Rune had been behind it, trying to make it appear like a channeling-induced suicide. In spite of their theory, Rune maintained his innocence - or, at the very least, that he was "not to blame".
Rune escaped during a prison riot when Mays and Webb had solved a "murder" in a death row, and he remains at large. In one case he was falsely accused of murdering a TV reporter who had made a critical program about him and Mays actually had to clear his name for that particular murder.
Comments: Created by Mike Barr.
Rune is a "returning villain" more than a "criminal mastermind" or something like that. There is a theory that his is the one case where the detectives got the wrong person, and that Rune took the fall for one of his children, who also had the skill necessary to kill Margaret.
