History:
El Zombo Fantasma was a luchador, a masked Mexican wrestler, who played the
villain role in his bouts. He had inherited the mask and identity from his
father, the previous el Zombo Fantasma, but he disgraced his legacy with
his bad behaviour both inside and outside the ring. He relished his part,
enjoying the irony of being jeered and spat at by fans during the bouts,
only to be begged for his autograph afterwards. As with many wrestling matches,
who won or lost was carefully scripted in advance, but el Zombo grew bored
with this, and during a match against the reigning champion and "hero wrestler"
Captain Courageous, el Zombo fulfilled his contracted part of losing by brutally
pounding his opponent, winning the fight but losing the actual competition
due to disqualification for his excessive force. Leaving the arena soon
thereafter, el Zombo was gunned down by an assassin, and died. His spirit
went into the afterlife, where he was met by his "caseworker" Angelo, who
informed him that his file identified him as "borderline" as to his final
destination, and assigned him to protect a young girl "full of potential",
Belisa Montoya, making it clear that failure to do so and to be good would
see him sent to Hell until the end of time. Though he didn't particularly
want the job, he had little choice, and, after realising it might give him
a chance to avenge his own death, he agreed.
