Visual Effects designer Jack Kine provided the face of the Republic's dictator, seen on various posters; the novel Timewyrm Revelations subsequently revealed that the Doctor recognised the leader's face as one of those the Time Lords had offered him during his trial in The War Games, and thus discovered the Republic's leader was his own alternate reality self. The reality had another appearance in the novel Face of the Enemy, where survivors on the devastated alternate Earth attempt to invade the Doctor's Earth.
