Summary: Lynn Thomas was working with her father at a medical mission in the Congo, trying to prevent an epidemic. Learning that young Doctor Terry Wilton had developed a new synthetic vitamin, Autorene, which might stave off the infections and save the local tribe, Lynn's father hastily sent her to London to collect a sample; Lynn and Terry had known each other when both were several years younger, and upon meeting again they swiftly fell in love. Unfortunately on the return journey bad weather forced Lynn's plane down in the jungles of Ubangi. While making her way through the tangled undergrowth Lynn drank the entire vial of Autorene, mistaking it for beef extract; only intended to be used in minuscule doses, the Autorene transformed Lynn, giving her superhuman strength and vitality. Encountering the native Flame Warriors fighting a lion, Lynn defeated both the beast and then the ungrateful men, who proclaimed her "the Tawny One" and "Tygra," their goddess. Deciding that they were her best chance of reaching civilization, she accepted this role and became their ruler. Hearing that her plane had not reached Doctor Thomas' Congo encampment Terry deduced that Lynn must have crashed en route and followed in another aircraft; spotting the remains of Lynn's plane he parachuted down and was soon reunited with her. Soon after this Lynn and Terry made their way back to Doctor Thomas' camp and rescued him from Amazon warriors who had kidnapped him. Thereafter the couple decided to stay in the jungle rather than return to civilization, and Tygra became the protector of the region from all manner of threats, from hidden Roman and Assyrian colonies to alien stone men.
