The Team That Went To War
In 1940's England, Barchester United were playing a friendly match against an armed forces team when a stray Luftwaffe Messerschmitt straffed the crowd. Using a downed soldier's Bren gun, United's team captain Sam Cartwright shot down the German, but the losses they suffered prompted the surviving team members to all sign up and take the battle to the Axis.
The Team That Went To War appeared in Battle Picture Weekly between 3rd April 1976 and 7th August 1976, and was created by Tom Tully and Mike Western.
