History: Fatally wounded when gangsters hijacked his rig, truck driver Mike McCluskey was injected with an experimental biochemical by a female scientist impersonating his doctor. Given the ability to swiftly heal even the most deadly of injuries, and seeking vengeance for the attack on him, Mike took the identity and costume of the Scarlet Scorpion, a long-vanished vigilante from the late 1950s / early 1960s. Ironically the new Scarlet Scorpion soon befriended Inspector Trent of the police, unaware that Trent had been the very hero whose identity Mike had assumed.

Thanks to Carycomic for the above info. He notes "AC Comics originally revived him as their continuation of Charlton Comics' Blue Beetle (Ted Kord). But, when the latter sold all their copyrighted characters to DC, a change-of-name and concept was made, to prevent litigation."
CLARIFICATIONS: Not to be confused with
anyone else called either Scarlet something or Scorpion
