Rocket
Real Name: Raquel Ervin.
Identity/Class: Human technology user
Occupation: School girl
Enemies: Oblivion
Known Relatives: Amistad Augustus Ervin (son)
Aliases: None
Base of Operations: Dakota City
First Appearance: Icon #1 (Milestone, May 1993)
Powers/Abilities: Able to fly, able to fire bolts of energy. Her powers are derived from her inertia belt which stores and returns kinetic energy which has three vulnerabilities:
if someone approaches stealthily, the belt can be remove, rendering the wearer powerless,
it cannot withstand or store fire (i.e., flame) attacks, and
if the belt becomes overloaded before it's stored energy is discharged, the wearer actually begins to feel the kinetic force of any attack or fall, etc.
History: Raquel Ervin was an idealistic, fifteen-year old African-American girl, who witnessed lawyer Augustus Freeman IV use superpowers to deal with burglars who had broken into his home. She convinced him to use these powers for the greater good, becoming the superhero Icon, while she in turn became his sidekick, Rocket.
Not long after they began their partnership it was discovered that Raquel was pregnant (not by Icon). She decided to keep her baby, becoming possibly the first single teenage mother in comics.
