Summary: The same day that she was fired from her job in a plant manufacturing parts for airplanes for the war effort by an abusive foreman after complaining when he worked one of her colleagues to the point of collapse, Patricia Patrios took part in an amateur stage play, playing the part of a female counterpart to the symbolic Uncle Sam. After the production and still in costume, she walked home with her boyfriend, Mike Brown, past the factory from which she had been fired, only for the couple to be challenged by a goon who ordered them to leave. Her suspicions raised, Pat instead decked the goon and went for a snoop, discovering her ex-foreman running a smuggling ring sending stolen airplane components to the Axis powers. She intervened, bringing the smugglers to justice. Upon hearing of her achievement, the public dubbed her Pat Patriot, and lauded her as the epitome of the American spirit. Inspired by this, she continued to oppose crooks and spies on the home front.
