Summary: Nevada Jones was a detective working for the Cattleman's Association, helping ranchers solve catch rustlers. However he was framed by outlaw Brock "Bull" Craven for the murder of Jim Sebold, the leading rancher of Midland County, and realizing he was about to be lynched rather than given a fair trial he escaped and became a masked vigilante, soon enlisting the aid of Little Joe, a Mexican friend of Sebold. After two years of hunting Craven, during which time he also brought several outlaws to justice, Jones finally captured his man and proved his innocence. Now free to operate without a mask he became a federal marshal.
History:
Comments: Created by Frank Volpe.
Nevada Jones had one appearance as a regular cowboy before being framed for murder in his second story, which appeared in Zip Comics#2. He finally proved his innocence in a two-part tale in Zip Comics#24 (where he captured Craven) and #25 (where he and Craven both stood trial, and the latter's guilt was proven). Six years later his stories recommenced in Pep Comics; he now had red hair rather than black, but given that not only his name but that of his steed were the same, he seems to be the same man. After several decades of non-appearances he recently resurfaced in some modern day Archie, Betty and Veronica stories - assuming there's no weird time travel or immortality shenanigans going on, this would presumably be a descendant of the one seen in the 1940s comics/Wild West era stories.
