Metal Heroes

Metal Heroes are a sub-genre of the tokusatsu (live-action special effects) genre, where the heroes are either robots, cyborgs or people wearing armour. Though the genre officially began with Uchu Keiji Gavan (Space Sheriff Gavan) in 1982, there were a couple of series predating this show which would also fall within the described parameters, notably Jinzo Ningen Kikaida (Mechanical Man Kikaida, 1972, based on an existing manga series) and Kikaidà Zero-Wan (1973).

Metal Heroes are either humans wearing armor, cyborgs or robots. Techically are the first two Metal Heroes, though most fans don't count them since they were from the 1970s and the other Metal Heroes were from the 1980s and 1990s. Starting with Uchu Keiji Gavan there were 15 Metal Hero series.

Thanks to Dan Ramon P. Geromo for informing me of this sub-genre of Tokusatsu and providing information on it.
