History: College engineering student Keiichi had been left by his fellows to man the dorm phone one evening and take any messages. Bored and stuck in for the night, he tried to pass on a messaage, but he made a mistake in dialing which would change his life forever. Instead of getting a student, he got Relief Goddess Office in Heaven instead, and first clas goddess, second category, unlimited, Belldandy was sent to answer his call. Emerging from a nearby mirror, she surprised the young student by offering him a single wish. Believing her appearance to be student prank arranged by his dorm-mates, the love-lorn Keiichi looked at the beauty in front of him, and wished he a girl like her could be with him always. Back in Heaven the cosmic mainframe, Yggdrasil, interpreted this very literally, and Keiichi found that Belldandy was now his own, private goddess.
Since his dorm was strictly men-only, Keiichi soon found himself thrown out for breaking the rules. He and Belldandy moved into an abandoned Buddhist temple, where they were soon joined by Skuld and Urd, Belldandy's two sisters.
