History: "Spotty" Herbert's father worked in Boggly Research Centre, where he had spent ten years working on a chemical to get rid of microbes. When his boss discovered that the idiot had instead created a serum that grew the microbes until they were visible without a microscope and were even running around the lab, he ordered the chemical be destroyed. Unwilling to let a decade of hard work go literally down the drain, Herbert's dad instead took his discovery home at lunchtime hoping he could use it to make his marrows grow into giants. Unfortunately, Herbert was hidden amonst the marrows looking for a ladybird he had been told had more spots than he did, and was doused in the chemical when dad sprayed it. When he later sucked on his favourite sherbert, it interacted with his chemically-transformed body, and he transformed from a spotty weakling into a large blue being with huge muscles, the Incredible Bulk.
