Hulton Press

History: In 1937 Edward George Warris Hulton bought the magazine Farmers Weekly and with it founded Hulton Press, adding over the next few years the magazines Lilliput, Picture Post and Leader Magazine. In 1950 he accepted the Reverend Marcus Morris' proposal for a new comic for boys intended to be more wholesome than the crime and horror comics being imported from the U.S.A., and so began publishing The Eagle. Sibling titles soon followed. Despite these titles' success, other Hulton publications fared less well through the 950s, and as a result Hulton Press was sold to Odhams in 1959.

Publications: Eagle, Girl, Robin, Swift
