Powers/Abilities: Hip Knox had incredible hypnotic abilities, allowing him to control either humans or animals with a single glance; he could mesmerize literally hundreds of animals in one go. He was also able to fake death, presumably by slowing his heart rate down until his pulse rate couldn't be detected. He was also a scientific genius, swiftly developing a device that could "destroy the atoms" of MacFadden's wire mesh masks, so that the anti-hypnosis devices would disintegrate.

Summary: Desiring to create a superhuman with hypnotic abilities, scientist Professor Knox experiments on an abandoned baby. His operations bring it back from the brink of death, but also enhance it's brain (and eyes). He raises the child as his own son, nicknaming him Hip (short for hypnotism), and when the boy reached adulthood gave him a costume and made him swear to never use his powers for evil. Hip Knox became a crimefighter, battling opponents including Eric MacFadden, a man who had developed a wire mesh mask that protected against Hip Knox's hypnotic powers.
