History: Grun is an investigator and troubleshooter for the Bureau of Silent Light, a law enforcement agency on the planet Toskin.

   Initially published as a college project to showcase Paul Marshall's work, the initial Grun fanzine only had a print run of around 300 issues, a few of which were sent to U.K. publishers as samplers in the hopes of getting a job with them. Apparently misunderstanding why it had been sent, Marvel U.K. instead reviewed Grun in their Fanzine Reviews section of Mighty World of Marvel#16 (1984); since this included an image taken from the fanzine, MWoM#16 might be considered the character's first appearance in a professional title. That fanzine also led to Marshall being asked to work for Harrier Comics, which in turn led to Grun appearing in the first four issues of Avalon in 1986, and then getting his own title, which lasted an additional four issues.
