History: The Green Cross Code Man appeared to British children in the late 1970's to teach them proper road safety.

Comments: Played by David Prowse, who also played Darth Vader in the Star Wars movies.

"Jason" wrote in to mention "I don't know if it had a name but I seem to remember he also had a robot sidekick, like a cross between R2D2 and Metal Mickey, in one advert at least."

Chris McCrohan informs me that 2000 AD prog 2010 included a Future Shock story entitled "Whatever Happened to the Green Pedestrian Palm", in which just-barely veiled parodies of various DC and Marvel heroes satirised American comics in general. In one frame, when the Green Pedestrian Palm goes to see his boss, a portrait of the Big E is hanging on the wall. The Green Pedestrian Palm is, of course, a parody of Green Cross Code Man.
