Summary: A former World War I Ace, retired ex-captain Dennis Quinn returned to the skies when the U.S. entered World War II to become a scourge of the Japanese in the Pacific Theater of war. Accompanied by a pet eagle, Freedom, and with his distinctive golden uniform and plane, he became known by the moniker Golden Eagle.

His pet eagle, introduced in Contact Comics#3 as his "new pal," is called Freedom in that issue. From #4 onwards, his pet eagle was called Liberty. So either he had more than one pet eagle, or he decided to rename the bird.
