History: Gaunt was a British operative during the Second World War, working for the SOE. Like all members of the SOE his job was to work behind enemy lines, without much communication with his superiors, carrying out acts of sabotage. Captured at the start of the war, he was tortured by Colonel Bluthal, the "Paris Butcher", who mutilated his right hand. Returned to England (by the simple method of dropping him out a plane), Gaunt slowly recovered in hospital. To replace his now useless hand, he designed for himself a metal hand. No longer wanted by his former employers, Gaunt set about getting revenge. Eventually succeeding, the SOE changed their mind, and Gaunt continued to battle the Nazis on behalf of his country.
Comments: Gaunt was drawn by John Cooper. His strip was later reprinted in the 1980's Eagle comic.
