History: Scientist Dr. Jeffrey Clive exposed his sickly assistant Dell Frye to gamma radiation in an attempt to heal him, but the treatment had the unexpected side effect of transforming Dell into a green skinned giant with superhuman strength. A victim of bullying by local townspeople, Frye was a bitter man, and the transformation also unleashed his anger and resentment, so that his alter ego was brutal and murderous. Eventually  Dr. Clive cured Frye's periodic transformations. Years later, hearing of the legend of another Hulk, similarly afflicted scientist David Banner followed the story to the small town of Vissaria, where he encountered Frye, now suffering from arthritis. While David tried to use Dell's experience to find a cure for his transformations, Dell decided to deliberately expose himself to the radiation again, rather than live with the pain of his illness. The treatment succeeded on all fronts, but Frye, still a victim of local bullies, decided to use his alter ego against them. Banner was forced to unleash his own monster to prevent Frye from killing anyone, and the local sheriff ultimately shot the monstrous Frye dead.
