Powers/Abilities: Duncan possesses a number of physical attributes that he has apparently inherited from his dragon father. Aside from being taller and larger than the average teenager of his age, Duncan is superhumanly strong and his skin is actually composed of incredibly durable scales that withstands enormous physical damage and impacts. Duncan can also breathe flames from his mouth, and can fly via a pair of wings that have recently emerged from his shoulder blades. Duncan may or may not possess an innate vulnerability to magic. The exact limits of his physical abilities have yet to be accurately determined. Presumably, he may have yet to fully develop the full extent and range of his powers.
History: Duncan Rosenblatt is a rather typical modern day teenager. He feels alienated from other teenagers. He is struggling to deal with his parents who are separated and share custody of him. Puberty has proven to rank right up there as a major trauma.
And he happens to be half dragon.
His father is the notorious Belloc, a 300-foot tall firebreathing dragon who holds the title of the King of the Monsters who romanced the human woman Margaret Rosenblatt , ultimately producing a hybrid offspring. Belloc keeps a somewhat paternal eye on his only offspring. He views Duncan as a potential heir to his noble lineage; providing that Duncan would lose some of those troubling ethics and morals that his mother apparently has contaminated him with. Belloc essentially wants to bring Duncan into the family business; namely pillaging, rampaging, and conquering while his mother is worried about his grades and whether or not he can get into a good college.
Because of his strange appearance, Duncan and his mother have been forced to move on a regular basis and he has grown fairly accustomed to everyone treating him like a freak. His father is confident that Duncan will eventually tire of his treatment and his ties to humanity and will willingly join him.
At his latest school, Duncan went on a field trip where his teacher proved to be descendent of a Spanish village that had been destroyed by his father centuries ago. As a weapon to kill Belloc, the survivors pooled their resources into forging a suit of armor known as the Iron Saint which was designed to kill the King of the Monsters, which his teacher decided to use by first killing Duncan. Unknown to both of them, Duncan was protected via his half-human heritage which protected him from the power of the Iron Saint which apparently self destructed when he tried to kill Duncan.
Most recently, Duncan has joined with a group of other troubled teenagers and young adults as the Pact, including Mark Grayson (Invincible), Zephyr Noble of the Noble Family, and Eddie Collins (Shadowhawk).
Comments: Created by Phil Hester and Andy Kuhn. The original concept of the character was part of a rejected proposal that Hester developed for Marvel Comics with the same basic premise save for the fact that the half human/dragon character was the son of Fin Fang Foom, an ancient dragon and long time Marvel villain.
Firebreather is a relatively recent addition to Image Comics' stable of heroes, guesting and making cameos in various titles to create a more stable Image universe. He has became a member of a group known as The Pact alongside Invincible, Shadowhawk, and Zephyr (of Noble Causes), the concept probably to bring together the more popular teenagers and young adult heroes together in a superhero group.
