Summary: After a lab accident exposed Professor Keith Spencer to cobalt rays, he discovered that rather than suffering a lingering demise as he had expected, his irradiated cells instead became stronger: his muscular density tripled, his speed increased to superhuman levels, he became immune to extremes of temperature and virtually invulnerable. His newfound strength peaked even higher when he clapped his hands, triggering a "miniature nuclear explosion" that enhanced him even further for two hours at a time...after which he merely needed to clap his hands again to power up once more. Pledging to use his new powers to help mankind and to fight evil, he became the costumed hero Captain Flash. He was accompanied by his non-powered sidekick Ricky.
