History: Having been in China on a research trip visiting Chin Liang, novelist Lucille Martin was sailing home. On board ship she was approached by Liang's serving maid, Lotus, who was delivering a priceless statuette from her master to Sing Thang in San Francisco; having realised that thieves intending to steal the artifact were on the ship, Lotus asked Lucille to hide it for her, also giving her an ancient ring with a blue bird marked on it, reputed to have supernatural powers. Shortly afterwards the thieves murdered Lotus. Back in the US Lucille accidentally released a gas from the ring which gave her superhuman strength. Creating the costumed identity of the Blue Lady, Lucille caught Lotus' killer and delivered the statuette.
