History: In the 1940s, pilot Phil Dauntless was one of the many Canadians who served in Europe battling the Nazis. Captured when the small European country he had been based in was unexpectedly overrun, he was forced by the Nazis to test pilot an experimental and supposedly indestructible new plane, the Flying Fish, but he managed to steal it. He returned to Allied territory, and for months flew the Fish in missions against the Nazis, alongside his co-pilot Hap and accompanied by his girlfriend Dizzy. After being falsely accused of desertion, pilot Phil Dauntless became a fugitive. Seeking to find evidence to prove his innocence, he began fighting crime while posing as a masked criminal, the Black Wing. His mission took him across the world.
Comments: Created by Herb Free and Verler. Phil began his comic career as a heroic pilot in Lucky Comics' strip Ether Escapades, before being forced to go on the run and don a costume ten issues later.
Ty Templeton used Black Wing in his 2010 comic Johnny Canuck and the Guardians of the North, where he appeared alongside other Golden Age characters.
