History:
Comments: Created by Colin Barr and Dominic Regan.
Ajys (presumably deliberately) sounds like Ice, which makes sense on one level given her powers, but it isn't the Russian word for ice, snow or anything similar. Instead it appears to be the Russian word for "backgrounds." Since The Freedom Collective was being done as a parody of 1960s Marvel titles I doubt the creators put too much thought into the name beyond wanting it to sound like a "foreign" pronunciation of Ice. Similarly, though identified as a goddess, as she was the Freedom Collective's counterpart to the Avengers' Thor, the comic doesn't specify which mythological being she is meant to be (again, they weren't trying to make the comic deep, just funny), but looking at the mythological options, she'd likely be Marena, the Slavic goddess of cold, frost, winter, death and agriculture.
